Despite the hate towards the Seoul subway, I just can't help but praise their pedestrian infrastructure. In Europe, this might not be a surprise, but for Asia, it's a breakthrough and a miracle, especially compared to places like Thailand or Malaysia (or even Hong Kong).
It's just damn aesthetically pleasing to see all these beautifully painted, perfectly smooth and clean roads, with all kinds of markers, pillars, and arrows. And almost nowhere do they try to confine you to the sidewalk behind fences, parking lots, or high curbs. The streets aren't just ugly asphalted ones, but are often paved with different materials, with trees and bushes planted everywhere, and small stones laid out...
In short, even though Seoul is a very car-centric city, walking here is a pure pleasure.
