#Kyoto
I hit the jackpot with my accommodation in Kyoto, as I only paid $65 per night for a modest room, and ended up right opposite Inari Station, a ten-minute ride from the iconic Gion district and within walking distance of one of Japan's most famous temples - Fushimi Inari Taisha, the main shrine of the fox god Inari.
If you're interested in Japan, you've probably seen the tunnel of red gates, and it's highly likely that it was filmed here, as there are several of them stretching for hundreds of meters across the nearby hills.
Another distinctive feature of this place is that it's an entire temple complex that extends far into the mountains. Therefore, you can combine cultural activities with physical exercise by hiking through bamboo and pine forests, or enjoy the sunset with a view of Kyoto. However, it's said that the local monkeys or even boars might interrupt you, but to be honest, I never encountered them here.
