Funny stories with taxis in Casablanca

There are two taxi booking services in the city - InDrive and Careem (a subsidiary of Uber). We used Careem, as it's the only one that accepts card payments (even though it costs twice as much). Everything seemed fine at first, but nope. The local authorities are complete idiots and ban online taxi services, classifying them as public transport that should be controlled by the state. Meanwhile, the unlicensed taxi drivers at the airport, offering rides at low prices, are somehow considered legal transport. Even though they're officially banned, online taxi services still operate, but they require drivers to purchase a special license for private transfers and fill out passenger lists. Otherwise, they have to operate at their own risk.

The situation here is so tense that there are places in the city where taxi drivers from the app simply refuse to go - Morocco Mall, train stations, and sometimes even the airport. There, they're usually met by other taxi drivers who can block the car and the driver himself, then call the police, who will charge him as a persistent offender. Others might just pelt him with stones.
