In parallel with the story about Europe, I'm preparing for my next trip to Asia, which is just a few weeks away.
The itinerary included 2 weeks in China, so I had to apply for a visa. It wasn't complicated at all - the documents required were much fewer than for the Schengen visa. There's no need to book an appointment either - you just go to the visa center on any day and there's hardly any queue. It took 3 days to process, and I picked it up at the same place where I submitted it.
Expenses: 137 CAD for the application + 20 CAD for photos + miscellaneous printing. They issue a double-entry visa without hesitation, so there'll be an opportunity to travel there again before winter.
There was only one hassle - I had 5 trips to Turkey in my passport. The visa center nitpicked and made me provide copies of the stamp pages and fill out a form with entry/exit dates and reasons. But it all worked out in the end, so we'll just chalk it up to the consulate's idiocy)
