#Beijing is just extremely spread out across the plains. The distances here are really huge, and it can take an hour to walk to a neighboring district in a straight line. Moreover, you often have to walk along highways, which, let's say, doesn't add to the comfort, especially in the hot summer weather.
Therefore, many people here ride mopeds or bicycles. And there are really a lot of bicycles here. Even more than in Amsterdam, considering how many people live in Beijing. Three companies are involved in their rental, which is easy to guess from their color schemes.
However, there's not always enough infrastructure for bicycles in the city. They don't pay much attention to the rules either, so people ride them as they please. Because of this, pedestrians often suffer, but this is of course a minor problem compared to the way moped riders drive here👹. More on them in the next post.
