#Vancouver
Near Chinatown, there's another notorious area of Vancouver - Downtown West-End. If you ask a local where you should never go, they'll say - West-End.
Over the past few years, the area has increasingly deteriorated into a "dead zone", where you hardly see anyone on the streets except for homeless people, drug addicts, and other marginalized individuals. Despite its proximity to the city center, the area still has low-rise buildings. No one wants to buy land here, and current owners don't know who to sell their houses to, because finding buyers willing to live in such a place is really difficult.
I think many have seen this place in dozens of videos about Canada, because it's often portrayed as a haven for drug addiction in the country. Indeed, getting fentanyl (or other drugs) here is incredibly easy, and it costs just pennies by Canadian standards - from $5 to $10 per dose. The police, however, don't really care much about it. According to the country's laws, drug possession and use are not prohibited, and the only thing they have to do is make sure people don't kill each other (which also happens periodically).
All of this, of course, contrasts with the seedy areas like Gastown, which are located just in the next neighborhood.
