Высотка 85 Sky Tower, построенная в период экономического бума Тайваня в 90х годах - наверное главный символ Гаосюна. Весьма необычная для нас, но вполне понятная китайцам конструкция в виде "арки", символизирует высоту и богатство.

К сожалению, в последние годы здание переживает не лучшие времена - большинство люксовых отелей не пережили ковид и были закрыты, ровно как и обзорная площадка. Торговый центр внизу опустел, а часть этажей теперь заняты обычными мелкими офисами. Парадный вход и вовсе выглядит как заброшенный.

Говорят, здание претерпевает реновацию после продажи с аукциона другой отельной компании. Но получится ли у неё вернуть "85" былую славу - всё ещё большой вопрос.

The 85 Sky Tower, built during Taiwan's economic boom in the 90s, is probably the main symbol of Kaohsiung. A very unusual structure for us, but quite understandable to the Chinese - in the form of an "arch", it symbolizes height and wealth.

Unfortunately, in recent years, the building has been going through hard times - most luxury hotels did not survive the COVID pandemic and were closed, just like the observation deck. The shopping center below has emptied out, and some floors are now occupied by ordinary small offices. The main entrance even looks like it's been abandoned.

They say the building is undergoing renovation after being sold at auction to another hotel company. But whether it will be able to regain the former glory of "85" remains a big question.
