#Seoul #Review
I decided to calculate my monthly expenses in Seoul. Unfortunately, it's hard to break them down by category precisely, as some things were bought with cash, and some were even purchased by friends in exchange for rubles, but I managed to convey the general picture. I won't list the tickets, as their cost is highly individualized.
So, the total expenses were ~$3,300. Of which:
- AirBnB accommodation for 30 days (near Gangnam) - $1,955 (it was possible to find something cheaper and smaller, but the range of $1,500-$2,000 still had to be taken into account)
- 4G SIM card for a month with unlimited data - $56 (tourists faced some serious issues with this, it was unreasonably expensive, but there seemed to be no other options)
- Other expenses - ~$1,290. It's hard to break them down, but we can estimate:
- Metro - ~$50. Assuming you go out almost every day and return. A ticket costs $1 and doesn't really depend on the station
- Alcohol - ~$300-350. I went to expensive bars four times (over $50 each), plus there were parties where I don't even remember what I bought or how much I spent in the morning))
- Other (900-1000 dollars). This mostly includes food in cafes and restaurants, which averages out to $15, which is not far from the truth. Korean cuisine is usually even cheaper, where you can get by on $10
Overall, the expenses turned out to be within expectations, but the food costs pleasantly surprised me. These prices are of course 50% higher than in Thailand and Malaysia, but still much lower than in Hong Kong. The cocktails, on the other hand, were a disappointment - even in Hong Kong, they didn't charge $20 each. Here, you have to settle for soju instead.
In summary, if you tighten the budget a bit on accommodation, the cost of living in a month can be considered ~$3,000 - a sum that's quite affordable for the average nomadic IT worker.
