Chinatown in #Singapore is a treasure trove of the city's colonial architecture. The district began to be developed as early as the 19th century, and for a long time, it was the main place of residence for Chinese migrants, their entertainment and trade activities.
However, after the establishment of independent Singapore and the "state plan" for the city's transformation, the district lost its original purpose. Now, it's more of a large historical preservation project, with trendy cafes, shops, and boutique hotels for tourists.
Therefore, my feelings about the place are mixed. On the one hand, it's probably the largest and most beautiful Chinatown in Asia that I've visited. On the other hand, it's increasingly becoming a tourist attraction rather than a community for local residents.
