#Shanghai
After dropping my things off at the hotel, I went out to explore the city. Right next to me is Nanjing Road - the main pedestrian street of Shanghai.
In the 19th century, the central district of Shanghai came under the control of the British Concession (a colonial company). What was once an ordinary dirt road quickly began to develop, and by the 20th century, it had become a key commercial corridor of the city. On either side of the street, wooden shacks were replaced by hotels and shops made of steel and stone.
Then the British left, but the buildings remained. Of course, the Chinese have plastered them with advertisements, but even so, they still look quite decent!
