Чуть дальше от Бунда стоит по виду совсем уж новый бизнес район. Всё как надо - стеклянные небоскрёбы с подсветкой, многоуровневый тц с озеленением, новые дороги с идеальной разметкой...

Но где все люди? Я гуляю тут буквально совсем один. Есть какие-то рестораны, в них сидит пара человек. Не этого ожидаешь от города с населением 25 миллионов!

И так в Шанхае очень много где. Есть ощущение, что город наполовину "фейковый", и большая часть населения живёт далеко за пределами центра, а тут вообще не бывает. И что все эти пустующие небоскрёбы построены корпорациями, попросту не знающими, куда деть свой капитал.

A little further from the Bund, there's a brand-new business district. Everything is perfect - glass skyscrapers with lighting, a multi-level shopping mall with greenery, new roads with perfect markings...

But where are all the people? I'm walking here literally all by myself. There are some restaurants, but only a few people are sitting in them. This isn't what you'd expect from a city with a population of 25 million!

And there are many places like this in Shanghai. There's a feeling that the city is half "fake", and most of the population lives far outside the center, and never comes here at all. And that all these empty skyscrapers were built by corporations that simply didn't know where to invest their capital.
