#Квебек - где это?

Думаю, далеко не все знакомы с географией Канады, и не знают, что у нас есть аж 10 провинций. Квебек - одна из них, и единственная, где государственным языком является французский.

Обусловлено это исторически - еще в начале 17 века часть Америки была колонизинована французами, и только спустя 150 лет эти территории были захвачены англичанами в ходе Семилетней Войны.

Однако, франко-говорящие жители никуда не делись, и смогли сохранить частичную автономию провинции в составе британской колонии, а потом уже и независимой Канады.

#Quebec - Where is it?

I think not everyone is familiar with the geography of Canada, and many don't know that we have as many as 10 provinces. Quebec is one of them, and the only one where French is the official language.

This is due to historical reasons - in the early 17th century, part of America was colonized by the French, and only 150 years later were these territories captured by the English during the Seven Years' War.

However, the French-speaking population did not disappear, and they were able to maintain a degree of autonomy for the province within the British colony, and later within independent Canada.
