Walking further away from the center, I found myself in a typical working-class neighborhood of Quebec City, built at the turn of the 20th century.

The houses here are very similar to those in Montreal (https://t.me/alexshitpost/3124?single) - 2-3 stories, brick, balconies, and of course, exterior staircases for access to each apartment.

There is absolutely no new construction in this area. Quebec City is very careful about preserving its cultural heritage, so you won't find any glass condos here like you would in Toronto.

Rue du Sault-au-Matelot is another well-known pedestrian street in Old Quebec. It's amazing how this type of urban landscape is so different from the rest of Canada.

During my trip, I walked and literally photographed every street like this, because it's like witnessing forgotten technologies!

In Quebec, there is the oldest port in Canada, which, even during the colonial era, was used to transport goods up the river to Toronto and Montreal.

Although Vancouver has long held the lead in terms of cargo volumes [https://t.me/alexshitpost/3562?single], cargo ships regularly navigate the St. Lawrence River, carrying agricultural products or oil to nearby refineries.

Religion plays a much more significant role in Quebec than in other parts of Canada. Historically, being Franco-Canadian meant being Catholic, in part as a contrast to English Protestantism.

Despite the declining trend, Quebec remains the province with the highest percentage of Catholics – 53% compared to an average of 29% across Canada. There are also Protestants here, but based on the number of churches, it's easy to guess which group is larger.

But Quebec doesn't end at the walls of the Old City!

As you move further away from the center, the stone buildings give way to brick, and instead of European-style houses, you find more classic American apartment buildings, which are more reminiscent of Philadelphia than France.

These types of neighborhoods are another unique feature of Quebec. In other Canadian provinces, they have long since been demolished, but here, entire blocks have stood for over a hundred years.

Once you venture beyond the old city center, the fairytale ends...
#Quebec, after all, remains a city in North America, and almost every city here suffered in the 70s from punitive development and motorization.

A multi-lane highway was built through the city center, and entire blocks of historical buildings were destroyed and replaced with faceless concrete office skyscrapers.

I'm not saying that highways or offices are not needed, but destroying historical buildings for this purpose, when there are vast fields and suburbs all around, is the height of "urbanist" idiocy from the 20th century.

No less significant is the building that rises in the center of the city: the Parliament of the province of Quebec.

The architects clearly drew inspiration from the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa, but added their own touches to give it a "French" feel – which is essential in Quebec.
The result is quite grand, but also beautiful!

I have no complaints about the food in Canada – it's a country of immigrants, which means you can easily find cuisine from any part of the world in any city.

However, finding good European cuisine at a reasonable price is becoming a problem! And Quebec comes to the rescue in this regard – the French heritage is reflected in the choice of restaurants, so I'm definitely not lacking in good food or drinks here!

Right in the middle of the 18th-century historical district stands the enormous Fairmont Château Frontenac hotel. This is one of 20 grand hotels built by the Canada Pacific Railway in various parts of Canada.

#Quebec - Where is it?

I think not everyone is familiar with the geography of Canada, and many don't know that we have as many as 10 provinces. Quebec is one of them, and the only one where French is the official language.

This is due to historical reasons - in the early 17th century, part of America was colonized by the French, and only 150 years later were these territories captured by the English during the Seven Years' War.

However, the French-speaking population did not disappear, and they were able to maintain a degree of autonomy for the province within the British colony, and later within independent Canada.

Someone in the comments managed to guess where the place in the photo is, but I suppose it's not familiar to most people. Three-story stone buildings, a Catholic church, French spoken... Where could this be?

The correct answer is in the city of #Quebec, the capital of the province of the same name in Canada 🇨🇦.

Regarding Kobe, I won't draw any definitive conclusions because I was only there for a day, and didn't even stay overnight.

However, if I were to offer advice, I would suggest placing Kobe on a second (or even third) itinerary for your trip to Japan. First, explore Kyoto, Osaka, and Nara, and if you have an extra day, then consider visiting Kobe.

Cities like this don't necessarily provide that "wow" factor, but they tell their own stories, which you might miss on your first trip.

One thing I noticed in Japan is that almost every major city has a kind of "golden district." It's always impeccably clean, beautifully decorated, and well-maintained, and of course, it's full of expensive stores like Gucci, Vuitton, and others.

In my opinion, this is a good indicator of the purchasing power of the local population. These areas don't thrive solely on tourists, so it suggests that Kobe isn't as poor as some might think. 😉

The most interesting part of the route for me is always to deviate from the well-trodden tourist paths.

Even while riding the cable car, I noticed a dam on the slope, and of course, I decided to try to reach it through the forest. AllTrails showed that there was a path there, so I left the garden and started descending.

As I approached the forest path, I was greeted by a solitary cat sitting there. It was probably just a coincidence, but it's no surprise that the Japanese often attribute symbolism to animals. I wonder, if this cat could talk, what advice would it give me?

Not far from the Shinkansen station, there's a cable car that takes you to the nearby mountains. If you go up, you'll find the Nunobiki Botanical Garden at the top.

This place is quite local, and there aren't many tourists. There are shops selling various souvenirs, oils, perfumes, and other items. As you can see, some of the buildings are built in an Alpine style – likely another reference to Kobe's "foreign" heritage.

However, you shouldn't linger at the very top. The garden consists of several levels that descend down the slope, so you'll need to do a bit of walking to see all the content.

It so happens that Kobe boasts a wealth of non-Japanese architecture. In the second half of the 19th century, a foreign settlement was established in the city to facilitate trade. Along with it, houses typical of Europe or America also appeared in Kobe.

In the photo, you can see a green, two-story wooden house – it used to be the U.S. consulate. On the same street stands another beautiful brick house with a weather vane – it was the former residence of the German entrepreneur Gottfried Thomas.

Nowadays, most of these buildings are small museums that showcase the lifestyle of that era. But in some, you can even stay overnight, like in a boutique hotel!

I had a great three days in Hiroshima, and I'm glad I didn't just stick to the classic Tokyo-Osaka-Kyoto route, but instead started exploring other regions of Japan.

Perhaps a small lesson from this is that you shouldn't judge a city based on its most hyped-up spot, like a "landmark," but rather delve a little deeper.

I definitely recommend visiting Hiroshima. Of course, as a city to live in, it's not the strongest (unless you're a fan of provincial life), but it would be interesting for tourists to spend at least a couple of days there! Besides, I've already told you what you can do here.

This is what the evening tide looks like near the floating gates. Where boats used to sail during the day, now people are wading through the water up to their knees.

By the way, these gates served a purpose: the land of the island was once considered sacred, and no human foot was supposed to touch it. The gates were built as an "entrance" to the vast temple that the island was believed to be.

However, even so, only priests and high-ranking Japanese officials were allowed to pass through the gates. And even they were not allowed to land on the island; instead, a port was built directly on the water (you can see it in the previous post).

The temple here definitely saved the day. One of the things that's characteristic of Japan is that there's almost always a temple at the top of mountains, and almost always a vending machine with water inside (whoever stocks it, thank you!).

The way back down was easy. There, in the distance, you can see the "gates" and the ferry that brought me to the island.

As they say... A wise person wouldn't go uphill? Well, I guess that's not me, because how could I miss out on a hike under the scorching sun at +33°C (91°F) 🤪

At first, I thought I'd take the lift up, but unfortunately, it was closed for repairs. I had already walked part of the way, so I thought, why not try my luck and conquer the mountain in an hour...

Oh, if it weren't for the temple with its life-saving water at the top, I probably would have died there 😂

Upon arriving on Miyajima Island, you immediately find yourself in a small village with a shopping street. Of course, everything here is geared towards tourists.

However, what I noticed is that it's more geared towards Japanese people than towards foreigners. Unlike Kyoto or Nara, almost nothing here is translated into English, and the street food tries to convey the authentic flavor of the island itself.

And at the end of the shopping street, you get a view of the famous floating torii gate, which attracts tourists from all over Japan. It's midday now, and the tide is coming in. But if you stay until evening, you can see how much the water level changes.

So you understand what the deer "gang" on the island gets up to – here's a video of a deer trying to break into a restaurant, and subsequently being escorted out by a waiter.

And here are some others who snatched brochures from unsuspecting tourists and started chewing on them... I don't know if it tasted good to them, but it was clearly indigestible, so I had to forcibly take them back.

If you miss the deer of Nara, I've found a worthy alternative for you! There are just as many deer on Miyajima Island, and here they are truly wild animals!

Unlike Nara, feeding the deer is prohibited here. They often ignore people because they don't need to, but they can still exhibit some "tough guy" behavior and try to snatch your food by force (especially from children). So, be careful with your ice cream! 😁

Miyajima Island is a must-visit destination for all explorers of Japan who venture beyond Kyoto. It's home to the famous floating torii gates, as well as Mount Misen, which stands at 535 meters tall.

The island is home to approximately 2,000 people, and probably just as many wild deer. You can reach it in about half an hour by ferry, which, judging by the logo, belongs to... Japanese Railways? They have interesting trains!

The most important thing is not to make my mistake, and go straight to the upper deck. Otherwise, you'll be riding with the cargo vans like I did 😆

They might not have given me another business card, but!

At the Alegre bar, I received a treasure map of Miyajima Island, which I'm heading to tomorrow.

Also, the owner of the bar told me that they have another, secret bar (as if a hobbit hole wasn't secret enough). It's located right next to the entrance, in a wall that, of course, no one pays attention to.

Anyway, I'm really intrigued, and I'll have to come back to Hiroshima in a couple of years. 😆

Remember, I mentioned that at a bar in Fukuoka, I was given a business card for another bar? (https://t.me/alexshitpost/4591?single) Well, I decided to take on that "quest," and I made it to the next stage – the Alegre bar in Hiroshima!

The entrance was quite amusing; I wasn't even sure if I was in the right place at first 😆. They had some interesting cocktails, although I can't say they were the absolute best (I liked the ones at Laffite more).

But on the other hand, I still had a great evening, chatted with the bartenders, and got even more recommendations for places to visit in Hiroshima! So, feel free to use them too.

Every Japanese city has a garden. If you don't know where to escape the concrete landscapes, look for one! In the photo, for example, is the Shukkei-en Garden in Hiroshima, which I visited on a hot day.

Entrance to these gardens usually costs $1-2, but you can enjoy the well-maintained, almost pristine environment, relax in a teahouse with tea, or feed the fish.

In the 1970s, income inequality in Japan was much higher than it is today, and thousands of citizens lived in what were essentially slums. In an attempt to address this problem, the authorities in Hiroshima implemented several planned social projects, the largest of which was the Moto-machi apartment complex.

During the construction, approximately 1000 wooden houses located along the riverbank in the city center were demolished. In their place, an entire district of 20 buildings, comprising approximately 4500 apartments, was built, along with a new shopping center and a school.

In essence, Japan was following a global trend of the time. Such "social housing blocks" from the 20th century can now be found in many countries around the world, from Europe to America.

I tried okonomiyaki for the first time – a Japanese dish that originates from Hiroshima.

It looks like a messy pile of ingredients in its original form: noodles, rice, vegetables, meat, fish... In general, you can mix in pretty much anything you have on hand. You layer the mixture and cook it on a metal griddle until it's crispy. Then, you cut it into pieces, and you can start enjoying it with a beer.

Basically, if you have leftover food in your fridge and some extra instant noodles, you can also create a Japanese-inspired meal at home.

Hiroshima Castle is the second most famous landmark in the city, after the dome (https://t.me/alexshitpost/4620?single). The original castle was built in the late 16th century, but, as you can imagine, it didn't survive the nuclear explosion.

So, everything you see in the photo, except for the stone foundation, is a reconstruction from the 1950s. And, in my opinion, it's quite elegant. Without the context, I would have thought it was a restoration.
It's worth going inside. For a few dollars, you can visit a small museum and go up to the observation deck on the roof.

Near the station, I stumbled upon a local "golden gai." The streets here are similar to Shinjuku, but on a smaller scale.

Places like this really capture that quintessential Japanese nightlife, with izakayas (Japanese pubs) and tiny restaurants that can only seat a handful of people.

I decided to go into an Italian restaurant, as I was a little tired of Asian cuisine after my trip to China. Inside, there were just a couple of customers, and an elderly Japanese man who was cooking everything right in front of them, just a meter away. That's what dinner was like!

#Hiroshima is one of the few major cities in Japan where trams still operate.

Since the city is located in a river delta, the soil here is not suitable for building underground metro lines. Therefore, the municipality has invested all its resources in surface transportation, and now it has the largest network of tram routes in Japan.

During my visit, I even witnessed the opening of a new line that runs directly from the city center to the second floor of the central station!

I was surprised to see that, for a city of its size, Hiroshima has quite a few buildings with 20-30 floors, and even a few with 50 floors!

I think geography plays a role, and the high density is likely due to the mountains that surround the city on all sides. Also, since the city center was destroyed in 1945, development could essentially start from scratch.

However, I can't say that the high-rise buildings create a unified center like in Osaka or Nagoya. Often, individual high-rise buildings stand amidst quite ordinary 3-6 story houses.

The most famous building in the city is the ruins of the former exhibition center, now known as the "Atomic Bomb Dome."

Because the atomic bomb detonated directly above the building, the shockwave hit it vertically, and its reinforced concrete structure remained standing. The ruins were preserved as a symbol of the horrific tragedy of war.

Surprisingly, there are relatively few people in the park, and of course, almost all of them are tourists (including me). This raises a question: how should a tourist approach such a place?

For example, there's an American family standing there, taking pictures in front of the remains of the city that their country once destroyed. What do you think, is that okay or not?

What does #Hiroshima look like?
Well, in many ways, it looks like a typical Japanese city. I would even say it's too ordinary.

It's not Tokyo, or Kyoto, and probably not even Fukuoka. The city ranks 11th in terms of population – only 1.2 million people. So, life here is quite ordinary – home, work, restaurants, parks, and maybe some hiking in the mountains or a trip to the nearby islands.

Of course, the city is known almost worldwide, because 80 years ago, the Americans detonated the first atomic bomb here. The locals certainly remember this, but more from history textbooks than anything else.

Therefore, aside from a couple of posts, my account of Hiroshima will be about something completely different.

Every year, seven districts of the city build huge platforms, like the ones in the photo, to carry them along the main street through the entire city. They do this at high speed, with crowds gathering on both sides, and lifting the exhibits using bamboo poles!

Ah, I would have loved to see this in person, but I didn't get the timing right. So, if you happen to be visiting Fukuoka, try to be there on July 15th).

Laffite bar has an interesting story. A year ago, a bartender at another bar in Fukuoka recommended it to me and gave me a business card. That's partly why I came here.

If you happen to be in Fukuoka, which bar should you visit? My recommendation is Laffite (https://maps.app.goo.gl/gmYmx1jSeeSWBbiX7). You can find it by going down this kind of basement in a dark alley (don't ask me how I found it!).

This place has a fantastic "speakeasy" atmosphere. The bartenders make their own infusions and cocktails using them, and they also have a collection of whiskeys owned by the bar's owner. And the best part is, you can chat in English! It's a shame that such great places are so far from Tokyo!

The nightlife in this city isn't quite like Tokyo or Osaka, but you can still find entertainment here.

The main action takes place on a small "island" separated from the rest of the city center by canals. You come here for the bars, street music, and establishments with questionable adult-oriented entertainment.

Fun fact: Fukuoka has the highest percentage of young people among the major cities in Japan. So don't think that only old people have fun in the provinces! 😁

Well, since my readers seem to enjoy Japan, I'll tell you about one of my trips to the Land of the Rising Sun. By chance, I crossed the border again in the city of #Fukuoka, just like I did the first time way back in 2024 (https://t.me/alexshitpost/1484?single).

To be honest, Fukuoka isn't really my kind of city. It's a million-strong city trying to appear grand, but it still feels very much like a provincial center. There's not much historical architecture here (most of it was destroyed during World War II).

The guidebook doesn't offer much either – eat ramen, see the Buddha, go shopping. I've already done all of that on my previous trip (https://t.me/alexshitpost/1518?single), so my plan is to check out a bar in the evening and then head further north.

#Shanghai #Review
Although I posted quite a bit, I only spent a week in Shanghai. That's not enough to fully understand a 25-million-person city, but it was enough for me to highlight the main pros and cons based on my experience.

In short, I really liked Shanghai as a city. Yes, it's still China, but it's much less stressful because the city has adapted to tourists. Some Chinese people here understand English, others at least use a translator. And in some places, there are even menus in English!

There's a cosmopolitan vibe, a lot of expats, and you can find food to suit any taste.

The streets are clean, green, and simply beautiful, and pedestrians aren't harassed by scooter drivers.

There's a dense metro network, good connections to the airport, and high-speed rail links to all parts of China.

The architecture in the city center is pure Europe, and it's a mix of styles from several different countries. And I've been really into that lately.

And all of this is in a huge city, which you could explore for months. So, Shanghai definitely needs to be on my list of top Asian destinations.

However, I still find it hard to imagine living here long-term. The Chinese way of life is just too exhausting for me, with their internet restrictions, "alternative" apps with poor user interfaces for everything, and the behavior of the Chinese people themselves, who are not averse to spitting, pushing, honking, and shouting.

This is purely my opinion, and whether these cons are important to you is up to you to decide. I would rate Shanghai at around 8/10.

It's hard to convey the scale of the Suzhou train station through a camera lens. But I was amazed when I saw the entrance to this massive structure, which is the size of a seven-story building. Just compare the columns to the size of the people!

By the way, like an idiot, I didn't check when the last train departed and decided to buy a ticket on the spot. It turned out that there are no more trains after 11:00 PM! And I arrived at 10:00 PM, and I see that all the tickets on trip.com are sold out 🫠

But I didn't give up. I found the only open ticket counter in the entire station, and together with some Chinese grandfathers, I tried to explain to the seller that I needed a ticket to Shanghai (pointing to the route on my phone). In the end, he fiddled around, called someone, and printed our tickets.

Victory! I won't have to sleep on the street!

As is often the case with tourist cities, as soon as night falls, everyone disperses.

I decided to walk about five kilometers from the old quarter to the train station, and of course, at 10 pm, there was hardly anyone on the streets.
But I was still curious to see what a couple of areas outside the tourist zone looked like.

And to top it off, cats roam the rooftops, while inside you'll find poodles, Siberian Huskies, bulldogs, and even Maine Coons! It's like a whole zoo.

To take a break, I went into a small temple on one of the streets. Finally, a place that's not overly crowded and doesn't feel like a tourist trap!

Inside, it's all very traditional: a garden with a pond, a courtyard for gatherings of older men, and a small museum of local furniture and ceramics.

There are many such small places in Suzhou. They can't all be included in a guidebook, but each one tells its own story.

It's like putting a blanket over something. China is a large country, so out of a billion people, you're bound to find a dozen who are exceptionally talented in unconventional ways.

However, I still believe that in most Asian countries, the norms of behavior are generally much stricter, and people are simply more reserved about behaving in a way that might be considered provocative.
In China, there's a concept of "don't care" combined with "if you want to live, you have to be resourceful," which results in a generation of TikTokers who shout in public for views.

If you're in Shanghai for a week, like I was, be sure to dedicate one day to a trip to Suzhou.

In reality, it's a separate city with a population of 12 million, but for Shanghai, it's like a suburb, so you don't necessarily have to stay there. However, the main reason to visit is the old town with its canals, a kind of "Chinese Venice."

On weekends, it's very crowded, so it's hard to take cool photos like you see on TikTok. But if you venture off the main streets, you can find some peace and quiet.

I was spot on with one of the bars in Shanghai. If you're a cocktail enthusiast, don't hesitate to visit Long Bar @ Waldorf Astoria Hotel (https://maps.app.goo.gl/BBVRrkgPSDm9dBsE9).

The bar is located within the hotel, in an old building that used to be a gentleman's club built by the British in the early 20th century. The marble interior is in the style of English Renaissance; it was designed by architects from Britain and Japan.

Long Bar was created along with the club and earned its name as the longest bar in the world at the time. Only white people were allowed inside, and seating was allocated according to social status.

Nowadays, of course, all of that is a thing of the past, and both Chinese and foreign visitors come here. In the bar, you can listen to live music and enjoy signature cocktails, categorized by trends from different eras. The prices are quite standard (around $20).

Therefore, from me, this place gets a 10/10 in Shanghai.

What kind of homes do Chinese people live in? After exploring different neighborhoods in Shanghai, I put together this collage.

Of course, there are many more variations, and the further you get from the city center, the more standardized the construction becomes. But in the older districts, you can still enjoy a diverse mix, ranging from colonial architecture to modern residential complexes.

I almost forgot to mention another area that you can't miss if you're visiting Shanghai.

The French Concession – the territory of a former French settlement, similar to the British one (https://t.me/alexshitpost/4383), which I mentioned earlier. While perhaps less extravagant, this area also embodies the spirit of that nation and the era when it existed within Shanghai.

You'll find many trendy cafes, mid-rise buildings with classic European elements like brick roofs and shutters, as well as narrow streets with bike lanes shaded by lush trees. It's possibly the most European place in China that doesn't feel artificial!

Section: Sanya is looking for hotel bars, so you don't have to.

On a Friday evening, I decided to visit the Fairmont Peace Hotel, located at the intersection of Nanjing Road and the Bund.

The hotel was built all the way back in 1929 and is designed in the popular style of that era – American Art Deco. It's no surprise that the Canadian Fairmont group bought it; they have a fondness for that style.

Even if you don't want to stay in a room that costs a fortune, you can still get into the hotel if you say you're going to the jazz club. You'll have to order a rather expensive (~$25) average cocktail, but you'll get to listen to live music.

Of course, it's not a must-see experience in Shanghai, but overall, it's quite nice.

Here are a few more videos, and some of my notes from a walk down Yuyuan Street.

For dinner, I decided to indulge in some grilled skewers from the street vendors. I had to wait in line, as there were a lot of tourists around, including some from Russia. It's not surprising, but generally, in China, you hear Chinese spoken 99% of the time, and you kind of get used to it. 😄

By the way, in the second photo, there are animals – who can guess what they're made of? Hint: they have a distinctive smell, and the whole street smells of it. They're definitely being cooked somehow, and miraculously, they don't melt under the air conditioning.

A fantastic place for an evening stroll is Yuyuan Old Street (but be prepared for a lot of people!).

The street itself is relatively new, but it's built around the historic Yu Garden, which dates back to the 16th century. All the buildings here are primarily commercial; the Chinese love to turn "historic" areas into shops selling all sorts of things, from food and souvenirs to clothing and cosmetics.

One of the disappointments was the M50 Art District.
On paper, it's supposed to be an art space with lots of street art, galleries, and trendy cafes. In reality, it's a deserted place, only open until 6 pm (which is during the hottest part of the day, thanks), with rather bland art installations that don't seem to have much of a message. There are only a couple of cafes. I visited twice, and there were almost no people there.

For a city of 25 million people, this is very underwhelming. If you're planning a trip, you can safely skip it.

🇹🇼 Taiwan has introduced an electronic tourist visa for Russian citizens. It's a single-entry visa valid for up to 30 days.

🇰🇷 South Korea has updated its nomad visa. The maximum duration, including extensions, has been increased from 2 to 3 years. Additionally, there's now an option to obtain the visa with an annual income of approximately $37,000 instead of $74,000, provided you are between 18 and 34 years old and plan to reside outside the Seoul metropolitan area (e.g., in Busan).

Yes, the skyscrapers are beautiful, with some playful architectural elements and a nod to American style. The main tower, the Shanghai Tower, is massive, no doubt about it.

But there's no point for an ordinary person to be in this area. There are no activities or cafes here, just a bunch of offices and wide highways.

Okay, there's a lone park in the middle of a circular road, but even for purely ecological reasons, I wouldn't walk there.

In short, as is often the case in China, development is built for a specific function, and integrating it into the overall urban environment is a secondary concern.

Around 6 in the evening, whether it's raining or scorching hot, crowds flock to the Bund to take photos against the backdrop of the "golden city", illuminated by the lights of historic buildings.

It's really beautiful! Compared to the daytime Bund, it's like two different cities.

The only thing that surprised me was how quickly everything shuts down and empties out after 10 in the evening. After all, people say that the Chinese don't care about the environment!

How can we understand that there are still 25 million people living in Shanghai?

Of course, it's evident from the abundance of 30-40-story skyscrapers in every part of the city. And such housing is clearly not cheap - the location is not too far from the center, with a park and a riverfront promenade, and the buildings themselves are well-maintained.

Google says that apartment prices in such an area range from 10 to 15 thousand USD per square meter. That means a good one-bedroom apartment of 50 square meters would cost around 600 thousand dollars. That's quite a lot even by global standards, wouldn't you agree!

Central #Shanghai is changing very quickly. If an area doesn't represent cultural heritage, it's likely to be completely demolished.

But while I was walking around, I found a few more places where you can still feel the old Shanghai, with its familiar panel houses and lattice windows. Those houses without lights and with broken windows are clearly already empty, and since my photos were taken a whole year ago, it's unlikely that they're still standing.

I found that very special Louis Vuitton ship, The Louis!

The brand loves to create huge exhibitions as a promotional event, and Shanghai is home to one of the two largest ones (the other is the suitcase-shaped house in NYC).

The liner is truly massive, reaching a height of 30 meters! Inside, there's a brand museum, a store, and a restaurant.

In the evening, I wandered into the Lujiazui district of Xintiandi. It's one of the city's most lively areas in the evening. It's considered a top shopping destination, but honestly, I'm not a big fan of it, so I can't say much about it.

But what I found enjoyable was that the district has preserved its historical architecture, and they've turned the "North Block" around the old stone houses into a fully pedestrianized area. It's definitely worth a stroll or dinner if you're in Shanghai.

#Shanghai
A little further from the Bund, there's a brand-new business district. Everything is perfect - glass skyscrapers with lighting, a multi-level shopping mall with greenery, new roads with perfect markings...

But where are all the people? I'm walking here literally all by myself. There are some restaurants, but only a few people are sitting in them. This isn't what you'd expect from a city with a population of 25 million!

And there are many places like this in Shanghai. There's a feeling that the city is half "fake", and most of the population lives far outside the center, and never comes here at all. And that all these empty skyscrapers were built by corporations that simply didn't know where to invest their capital.

Remember I showed you the prison van in Beijing (https://t.me/alexshitpost/3468)? Well, they've really upgraded it in Shanghai. Another example of a city with too much money 😆

I don't even know how to describe this... a luxury mobile interrogation room? Look at this, they've even installed an air conditioner!
